Kalguksu near Jonggak Station: What We Put in the Bowl

Jonggak Station Line 1, Exit 2 puts you on Ujeongguk-ro. Walk toward Jogyesa Temple. The sign for Sambong Dodam is about three minutes away, 1F at 45-5 Ujeongguk-ro.

The kalguksu broth is Hanwoo beef bones and chicken, simmered eight hours. That is what the printed menu says. The soup is cloudy, not greasy on top. The noodles are knife-cut.

The mild Hanwoo bone-broth chicken kalguksu is 10,000 won. The spicy bowl is 11,000 won and comes with shredded chicken. Extra chicken breast, 100g, is 5,000 won.

Lunch last order is 14:00. Break is 15:00–17:00. Dinner opens at 17:00, last order 21:00. Weekday lunch has self-serve makgeolli. Rice is self-serve every service.

Some guests leave after one bowl. Others add the 100g tasting bossam. That tasting plate has no wraps or sauce. For a proper evening plate, order the small mungteongi bossam.
